Workplan
The plan of work envisaged for the four years that the project lasts aims to propose activities within a common space and following the four lines of action laid down in the objectives.

This will be done in the following way:

  1. A research space will be created and consolidated in each one of the lines of work proposed in the project. This space will not be defined by subject matters, areas or Universities or by the centres involved.
  2. A series of topics common to the aforementioned research lines will be defined which will include all the action axes of the project and seminars will be organised to discuss the advances made by each one of them. The possibility that the results of the discussion might have a certain social impact will be taken into consideration.

We shall give merely five examples of topics whose social impact and visibility may be significant:

  a) Science and war: the role of science in war and the impact of armed conflicts on scientific culture.

  b) The practices of scientific visualisation as a source of artistic inspiration.

  c) Pain and its scientific and cultural study .

  d) Science and fiction: the translation of science in utopic and dystopic spaces.

  e) Dynamics of the cultural diffusion of science and the participation of the general public.

  1. Various activities will be carried out geared towards the international formation and consolidation of the group:
  • The setting up of post graduate course with professional and Masters research degrees which will continue the work carried out by the “Science and Culture” doctorate begun five years ago.
  • The holding of research seminars and the carrying out of post graduate courses within the framework of this new doctorate in science and culture, created in accordance with the requirements of the new post graduate law but continuing on from the existing course.
  • Integration in international networks so as to achieve a public visibility to obtain resources and to circulate our human capital.
  • Drawing up of a diffusion programme.

As the programme of activities is carried out, special attention will be paid to supervision in the following way:

  1. By means of periodic meetings (3 per year) between the researchers in charge of each research group to evaluate the events that have been carried out by each group, for the proposing of new initiatives and the organising of new seminars.
  2. By means of an annual meeting of all the members of the group in order to evaluate the programmed activities, the presentation of the research results of the participants and the revision of the subsequent plan of work.

The plan of work will have three phases where emphasis will be placed on a different aspect of the consolidation of the “Science and Culture” studies:

  (A) Creation of discussion spaces on the action lines of the programme and on the common topics in order to give unity to the discussion seminars currently open by each one of the groups.

  (B) Discussion and establishing of an academic post graduate programme which would involve all the groups and centres, which should be geared towards the training of professionals and researchers in the cultural dynamics of science and technology.

  (C) A final phase of the project will concentrate on consolidating the internationalisation of the group which will have been prepared during the first two years. To this end, links will have been established with European groups so that we will be ready to prepare proposals for the VII Framework Programme.
